HOW A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER  SHOULD MANAGE A FESTIVE  HOLIDAY.

The straight question is how should a business owner see or spend the Christmas/New Year holiday or any other holiday for that matter?

The answer to this question depends on so many factors and circumstances of an individual that runs a small business and taking into consideration so many factors and importantly survival of the business knowing the impact of competition. First of all you should realise that every right decision you take concerning your business will go far in making a positive impact in your business.

Therefore, the holiday period should be properly planned in such a way to get the maximum benefits because at this time or period of the year everyone tend to take a break, so you might think  the fear of losing business is out of the equation because everyone is taking a break. Therefore, the small business owner should take note of the following during the festive holiday

PLAN WORK SCHEDULES WITHIN THE HOLIDAY

Remember that  some of your customers or clients maybe  be working during the period of festive holiday, especially those clients whose activities borders on  recreations, restaurants, shops etc. Therefore, you must create a time to attend to emails, phone calls and related issues because small business survives on the personal relationship of the owner with their clients.

BALANCE THE EQUATION AND AVOID FAMILY FRICTION

Let your family know that you are setting time aside to pay attention to business during the holiday and if possible let them know the time of the day you will be attending to your business needs. Remember to devote a part of the day for this without spoiling the fun

COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CLIENTS PRIOR TO HOLIDAY

Send emails to your clients prior to your holiday notifying them of possible delay in getting response from you and give alternative person they could contact if you are not readily available when they need your attention.

PLAN THE NEXT YEAR BUDGET AND OPERATIONS

You should remember that this is the appropriate time to make a note of the budget and strategic plans for the following year. These notes will form part of the overall information that will impact on your plans for the following year.

WORK ON AN INNOVATIVE IDEA FOR A CHANGE

Also use this period to plan  innovation that might improve the business and take it to the next level, because the break afford you time to think of how a little change in the way things are done or acquisition of new application might help with growth and development of the business.
